It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of the holiday season. While we all have errands to run, presents to wrap and guests to entertain, it’s nice to remember that the holidays are a great time to bring your family together to share the true meaning of the holiday spirit. Here are some of our favorite ways to give back this season:
Get Toys for Other Tots
Head to the store and let your children pick out a toy to donate to the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots Foundation. Your kids get to make a fun decision, and you can explain that they’re helping other children have a happy holiday. Find a drop-off location near you.
Shovel your Neighbor’s Snow
Bundle up the kids and get shoveling! Whether you do it for an elderly neighbor or a mom who you know doesn’t have the time, you and your kids can have fun outside, lend a helpful hand and get some great exercise!.
Spread the Warmth
Ask your kids to go through their closets and pull out coats that no longer fit. Then find a donation center or start your own coat drive in your community. Here’s a great source for more ideas.
Run a Holiday Race
Sign your family up for a holiday race. Not only will you fuel some fun family competition, but you will also get a workout and give a small donation that goes to a charity or cause in your area.
Make Homemade Cards for Soldiers Overseas
While your kids are home from school, organize craft time. Everyone can make greeting cards to send to those who are serving our country. Not only will your kids have fun making the cards, A Million Thanks will arrange to have your cards sent overseas.
Make Leftovers Count
Let your kids help bake or cook your traditional holiday dishes and treats. Double the recipe and wrap up the extras to bring to a local soup kitchen or neighbor. Check out the Homeless Shelter Directory to find a soup kitchen or food bank near you.
